Cause and Effect Essay

According to a statistic of the Supreme Court, three out of five couples end in divorce every year in the United States. It is said that this rate will continue to increase in the future. The basic reasons for rising divorce rate fall into three main categories: changes in women‘s roles, financial problems, and work pressures.

The first cause of rising divorce rate is changes in women’s roles. More and more women work outside; thus, they spend less time with their spouse and children, which creates a distance among members in family. Furthermore, getting divorced seems to be easy when women are financially independent from their husbands. Women have equal opportunities to get good jobs and earn much money because of their well education. As a result, nowadays in many families the wives become breadwinners. All in all, changes in women’s roles can cause couples’ divorce.

Another reason is financial difficulties leading to many serious disputes between spouses. Most of the married couples cannot afford their rising daily expenses during economic depression. Dealing with a lot of payment monthly such as electricity, water, gas bills, they tend to struggle to make ends meet. If they have some children to take care of, they have to spend more money on school fees, toys, milk powder, baby-sitter and so on. In short, a break- up of marriage is inevitable if married couples cannot handle with their financial situations.

The last reason of rising divorce rate is high work pressures. So as to earn more money to support the whole family, both husbands and wives have to work overtime, even until midnight. Hence, they do not have enough time to warm up their love and become indifferent to each other. In addition, being stressed due to work pressure, they tend to bring unpleasant things from workplace to home; so many arguments happen. In sum, work pressures lead to marital breakdown.

Rising divorce rate has influenced on many aspects: psychology and behavior of children whose parents are separated, couples’ attitude towards love and marriage, and government finance.

One of the biggest effects of high divorce rate is its psychological and behavioral influence on children. Living in a family which consists of either father or mother, children cannot perfect their characteristics. For example, they find difficult to make friends or speak in front of public. Moreover, without the care and education of the other spouse, children will have bad behaviors, even commit crimes. In summary, children are the ones who suffer from their parents’ divorce.

The next effect is that more and more people change their attitudes towards marriage and life negatively due to high divorce rate. They tend to lose their faith and belief in love, so they would rather be single than start new marital relationships. Moreover, after divorce, many people become hopeless and commit suicide. To summarize, the increase in divorces results in bad perspectives on love and life of separated couples.

Last but not least, rising divorce rate costs government finance a lot. Every year to solve divorce cases, they open many trials and hire a lot of lawyers, which is really expensive. Furthermore, in some Western countries the governments have to spend a great deal of money supporting the single –parent families to take care of children. In short, the higher the divorce rate is, the more money the governments cost.

In conclusion, the rising divorce rate has great influences on psychology and behavior of children whose parents are separated, couples’ attitude towards love and marriage, government finance. Although divorce is a way to help people escape from unhappy marriage, it is not a good solution at all. Thus, try to build and maintain a happy home by loving and understanding one another more because family love is one of the most precious things in the world.

Argumentative Essay

In modern society, the media is one of the best means for us to come closer to celebrities. However, the media place more and more heavy emphasis on the opinions and actions of these people. In my opinion, it is not really important to pay attention to these opinions and actions because it will badly affect on their private life as well as ours.
First of all, paying attention to what celebrities think and do will bring their private life intense annoyance. Whenever they appear, they always try to keep their image as a perfect person in the eyes of the public. Their actions are often noticed, even  small ones such as smiling, making-up, dressing, particularly their love. For example, the romantic relationship between Kristen Stewart, a charming American actress and a popular actor Robert Pattison has cost a lot of paper and ink of the media for a picture of Kristen kissing a director posted on many newspapers. Later, Robert was deep into stress. Although it is just a matter of one’s own life, the interference of the public in this situation causes the negative effects which destroy mostly what they have tried to build.
Secondly, eyeing to the celebrities’ actions and opinions also has effect on ourselves. Many young people spend a lot of time to catch information about the celebrities on the Internet. However, the fact is that most of the young prefer to have access to ridiculous websites relating to the show business. This not only wastes so much time but also distracts them from focusing on studying or working. In addition, the young’s behavior has been influenced by the famous people’s. They tend to imitate the celebrities’ lifestyle, actions and thoughts. For instance, many students like changing their hairstyles and fashion style as many Western stars. It seems somehow modern, but not suitable to our cultural standards.  However it is, try not to let the celebrities influence ourselves.
Some people say that celebrities are talented and successful, so we should pay attention to their actions and opinions to learn from them. Nevertheless, some stars get famous not by their own efforts. For example, Lance Amstrong, who is one of the most famous cyclists in the world, used drugs to win seven championships of the race Tour de France. Furthermore, some stars are not well-behaved, which gives us nothing to learn. Imitating these bad actions misleads people to something unacceptable, such as arrogance, unsuitable fashion style, and so on. To conclude, celebrities are not always the good mirrors for us to follow.
In summary, whether our own life afflicted by the opinions and actions of celebrities or not is decided by ourselves. Whatever the celebrities’ opinions and actions are, we should not take our precious time on them too much because fame is just the representative of the  talent, not the goodness.

Comparison Essay

In such a time of globalization, many countries tend to integrate into each other and share some cultural values beside their own unique ones. One of the obvious examples is shown in the wedding ceremonies. Although VietNam and the US have different ways of celebrating a traditional wedding, they also share some simalarities.

The Vietnamese and the American do the specific things right before their weddings. The brides in the US must to choose white dresses while the Vietnamese ones prepare the red Ao Dai for themselves. Besides, to the American, the gifts for the newly couple are optional; most of the invited guests, however, tend to deliver their presents to the couple before the wedding ceremony. On the contrary, in VietNam, people are usually expected to bring their gifts in the form of money in the envelop.

Another discrepancy is shown during the wedding party of the two cultures. The Vietnamese celebrate their wedding days at the bride and groom’s house; nevertheless, the American chooses the church, courthouse or outdoor evenue for their own days. In addition, the American couples usually follow the flower girls in the ceremony. The girls, who are cute, spread petals down the ailse for the bride and groom to walk on. The petals represent for fertility and hope. In Vietnam, nonetheless, these girls are not so popular. The couples follow their parents to go the stage instead.

In spite of these differences, Vietnam and the US also share several similarities in wedding ceremony. The ring with circular shape symbolises enternity, endless, thus never-ending marriage. Therefore, it is the most important thing in weddings. Besides, the bride should avoid wearing black dresses because the black ones are considered to bring bad luck or evil spirits. In the two cultures, invitations are sent to the guests long time before the wedding. These letters are supposed to be written by hand to show the respectation and kindness of the host.

In conclusion, the American and Vietnamese weddings are different, yet alike. Although they have many different and unique things in before and during the time of celebrating the wedding ceremonies, they also share some similarities. Whoever we are, we are proud of what we have making us different, unique; also we are happy to find out the resemblance between the two total different cultures.
